Setting the Customer Shop Status in Zen Cart

Zen Cart gives you the ability to restrict access to your store to visitors that do not have an account.  This is ideal, as an example, for wholesale stores where you require customers to login before they have access to prices.

There are four different modes of operation available for your Zen Cart Store.  The options in Customer Shop Status – View Shop and Prices are:

  1. Not required

In this mode visitors are able to browse products, register for an account, login and make purchases.

  2. Must login to browse

This mode forces visitors to create an account or login before they are able to browse products.  The ‘home page’ of your store is the Login Page with all sidebars removed and most links redirect back to this page (with the exception of the Privacy page).  Once the customer has logged in, the store functions normally.

  3. May browse but no prices unless logged in

In this mode, all visitors to your store are able to browse products and page however all prices, Add to Cart and Buy Now information is replaced with a link to Login for Price.  Once the customer has logged in, the store functions normally.

  4. Showroom Only

In this mode, all visitors and customers are able to browse products and price information throughout your store.  However, in Showroom Only mode, products cannot be purchased.  Customers can continue to log in and view their account information, such as previous orders, for example.
