Using the Zen Cart Community Support Forum

The Community Forum available from the Zen Cart website at http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/ hosts an absolute wealth of knowledge on Zen Cart.  The developers of Zen Cart are very active on the forum and there are hundreds if not thousands of Zen Cart store owners who are also dedicated in sharing their experience and expertise.  Here are a couple of small tips for using the support forum.

You will probably be able to find answers to most questions by searching the forums.  If you find a thread that is ‘sort of’ or ‘nearly’ what you are looking for, scroll to the end of the page and you will see the Similar Threads section.

Email Updates

As everyone tends to use different wording to ask their question and also in the answers provided, it is likely that you will find what you are looking for in one of the related threads.

If you do not visit the support forum regularly, one of the most helpful settings can be found in the User Control Panel.  Set the Default Thread Subscription Mode to automatically send you an email each time there is a follow up comment posted in a thread that you have either started or posted in.

Click on User CP from the menu bar.

Select Edit Options.  Scroll to the section titled Default Thread Subscription Mode and select your preferred option.

Posting Guide

When asking for help on the forum, try to include as much information as possible:

  • What version of Zen Cart are you using?
  • Has your site been upgraded? When? From what version(s)?
  • What Add Ons have been installed? When?
  • In what ways is your site customized or different from a brand new uncustomized install?
  • If you’re encountering display/layout problems, post your site URL* so it can be seen in action.
  • If you’re encountering problems that could be related to your server or hosting company, include the name of your hosting company (not their URL).
  • WHEN did the problem "start"? How does that compare with other events of your hosting company, changes you’ve made to your site files or Add Ons, or your admin settings, etc?
