My client wants a showcase only. I am trying to get rid of the text that says Shopping Cart now in your cart 0 items and I am also trying to get rid of the currency drop down menu. I went ahead and changed the store status and customer details but The text still stays there. Do you have any idea on how to get rid of it?

In the Showcase mode, your Zen Cart is a product catalog, showcasing your products. In a default installation, the Add to Cart / Buy Now buttons are replaced with a Contact Us button. In addition, visitors will not be able to register for accounts – the Login link is also removed – nor be able to make any purchases, they are only able to browse your products (or services). Showcase mode can be set with or without display of pricing information. More details can be found in the post Difference between Showcase Mode and Showroom Mode in Zen Cart.

In your template, it looks like the Shopping Cart in the header and the Currency drop down menu have been hard coded. You will need to look in your template files for the references to these sections. Start in the tpl_header.php file located in the /includes/templates/CUSTOM/common/ directory where CUSTOM refers to your current template.
