The installation of Zen Cart comes with the default template ‘Classic’. Luckily, one of the great features of Zen Cart is the ability to create new templates, utilising the override system.

Each week we put a Zen Cart store in the spotlight to illustrate the powerful flexibility of the Zen Cart shopping cart solution. These live Zen Cart stores have been carefully selected as a cut above the rest to showcase to you the ability of Zen Cart to realise your online store vision.

Hello Kerrin,
is it possible to put a video on my front page. How would I do that.
I think my front page looks abit boring compared with some of the nice pages you show on this site.

Hi Pauline
It’s certainly possible to include video on your Zen Cart home page. A couple of options are:

1. Add to Admin > Tools > Pages Define Editor: define_main_page.php for display on your store home page.

2. Add using the Banner Manager.

By the way, you don’t need to go down the path of embedding video to make your store interesting. One of the reasons I’ve included these sites is that they have great design, they’ve kept things simple and haven’t lost focus on the purpose of their store.

Vickie, I think a lot the better designed templates are coded from almost entirely scratch, in my experience.

Nice variety of store fronts. I am considering switching carts and have been looking around at the various options, Bigcommerce, Volusion, etc. It is nice to see what is possible with Zen Cart.

I agree with Steve. This is so cool. Zen art gallery truly captured the aesthetic sense of e-commerce. It’s like you’re having some window shopping in a mall. A range of stores to choose from. The web pages are indeed appealing.
